End of NBA-Season Quick Hits

Was that the most exciting NBA regular season finale ever?

I mean why’d the bump Kobe to ESPN2… Oh wait the Warriors got 73 WINS! And that’s not even the most talked thing about the night… That’s just insane.

First and foremost – as a longtime Kobe fan, I just wanted to thank the dude and say that though the 6th title would have been the perfect ending, this is also a great ending for him (especially considering the team wasn’t in the playoffs).

Kobe Bryant

For Kobe to end on a win… The last statistics he recorded was an assist… Last points (and his first career points) were three throws and this time they were to ice the game… Last field goal was the go-ahead jumper… He led a furious comeback.. Oh and he dropped 60! I don’t care about the 50 shots – he’s earned it and it takes endurance to keep shooting it and stay in a rhythm! I’m pretty sure 99% of players never get past 60 points, so for Kobe to do that in his last game ever… Insane… Thank you Kobe! That man was the guy who got me into basketball and gave the game everything he could.

Now, some quick-hits.

SplashTag’s NBA Awards:

First-Team: Stephen Curry (MVP), Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Draymond Green

Second-Team: Chris Paul, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge, Andre Drummond

Third-Team: Damian Lillard, Kyle Lowry, Paul George, Boogie Cousins, Paul Millsap

Almost made it – Dirk Nowitzki, Al Horford

Most-Improved: CJ McCollum (though arguments for Stephen Curry can be made depending on how this award is interpreted)

Defensive Player of the Year: Draymond Green

Rookie of the Year: Karl Anthony-Towns

6th Man – Seriously thought about Iguodala (glue-guy even if the stats aren’t sexy) but he missed a lot of games… Jamal Crawford? (This years pool is weak)…

Coach of the Year – Controversial pick here, but Steve Kerr… Yes he wasn’t around all the time but he’s coached and built a culture that allows for players and assistants to set the team up for their historically dominant success.

NBA All-Rookie Team:

1st team -Towns, Jokic, Porzingis, Russell, Booker

2nd team – Okafor, Turner, Winslow, Cameron Payne, Stanley Johnson

In the great words of Allen Iverson, playoffs?!?!

The NBA Playoffs are here! Here are some things I’ve noticed when I look at the playoff bracket.

The first round out West isn’t super intriguing – Blazers-Clippers seems the most eye-opening. I guess that’s what happens

Though the East seems more “open,” the style of basketball isn’t going to be as exciting as what you see out West. Heat-Hornets on paper is a good series, but expected slow, more methodical, and well-executed and defended basketball games. Same goes for Raptors-Pacers.

Pacers-Raptors note: Raptors are the better team, but the Pacers have the best player on the floor.

It looks like the 2nd Round is the round to really look forward to (over the first round). As for the conference finals, I’m fine with Warriors-Spurs or Warriors-Thunder. Meanwhile out East, I want Cavs-Heat.

Will the best series be the Western Conference Finals? Given how loaded the top of the West was, this may be true. Especially if Cleveland gets upset – whoever beats Cleveland would not be looked favorably to beat any of the top-3 (maybe 4) seeds out West.

It’s the playoff time and I’m excited – but I can’t lie, this first round isn’t looking super sexy relatively speaking.
